Director of Engineering


Harvest Solar is seeking a Director of Engineering who will take ownership of the company’s engineering department. Ideal candidate has a Bachelor(+) of Electrical Engineering, Professional Engineer status in the State of Michigan, and NABCEP certified. Qualified candidates will be experienced in solar, outgoing, team-focused, solutions-driven, capable of managing the department, and willing to travel for industry events, trainings, and current/future customer visits. This position will manage all aspects of in-house PV design, engineering & design safety/quality standard, product selection & research, and qualifying/outsourcing professional services outside the company’s scope.


40-45 Hours/Week


  • Hands-on PV design duties
  • Responsible for detailed quotations of large-scale projects for new business development team
  • Manage existing engineering & design team
  • Product research & selection responsibilities
  • Responsible for creating cost savings in company design and installation methods
  • In charge of recommending and implementing engineering/design tools and necessary software subscriptions so the team can perform effectively and efficiently
  • Recommendation and implementation of company-wide further education initiatives regarding technical aspects of marketing, selling, designing, installing, and servicing solar products
  • Responsible for signoff on all company preliminary design, as-designed, and as-built record drawings
  • Proactive consideration & implementation of feedback from the electrician and construction crews for improvement of future PV designs
  • Customer visits for potential ag, commercial, industrial, and utility projects as support to the sales team
  • Professionally represent Harvest Solar as an ambassador to our vision, driving increased solar awareness
  • Travel up to 25%

  • Bachelor of Electrical Engineering (required)
  • Professional Engineer status in the State of Michigan preferred (preferred)

  • 10+ years of experience in an electrical design capacity
  • 5+ years of experience in PV design
  • 5+ years of experience in managing an engineering team
