Sales Manager, Residential Solar


Sales Manager, Residential Sales is responsible for managing and growing the residential solar sales team at Harvest Solar. Efforts will be focused in multiple states so expect 50% travel for the first six months and possibly beyond. Employee is responsible for sales processes, sales training, sales strategy, recruiting, managing direct reports, team building activities, understanding and recommending financial tools, marketing collaboration, lead generation methods, and maintaining the high-quality Harvest brand. Employee is expected to be a team player while growing the department per the executive team’s goals.


Includes, but not necessarily limited to the following:

  • Responsible for all residential sales activities within the assigned territories
  • Gather complete information that will be used for proposals, interconnection agreements, local utility agreements, and other required applications and forms
  • Conducting basic site surveys and collecting energy bills as required by the engineering department
  • Evaluating competitiveness of products and services
  • Developing and implementing plans for products and services that determine and meet customer requirements
  • Negotiate and close sales at an optimal close percentage (and train subordinates to do the same)
  • Aggressively build a portfolio of long-term customers within Harvest sales territory
  • Contribute to the marketing strategy for lead generation and branding
  • Market monitoring and competitive analysis
  • Interaction with the central office (President, Sales and Marketing, Technical/Engineering Support, Finance and Construction teams)
  • Participate in the company's strategic marketing and business development activities for new products, clients and/or services
  • Develop creative ideas and coalitions to achieve departmental revenue goals while helping customers achieve their needs for renewable energy products
  • Meet with and report to VP Sales & Marketing on a regular basis
  • Consult with company leadership on major decisions involving personnel, budgets, and high-level strategies
  • Become fluent in the technical aspects of the product
  • Become fluent in using effective sales strategy and tactics to sell this technical product (and teaching these strategies to subordinates) to a customer that will benefit from it while effectively overcoming customer objections
  • Must be able to represent Harvest Energy Solutions in a professional manner to owners, contractors, vendors, trade show attendees, and any other contacts outside the Harvest organization


  • 10+ years of sales experience required
  • 5+ years of solar sales experience required
  • Run the department with the utmost of professionalism and good decision making
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and constructively with other team members and disciplines both verbally and in written form
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret relevant industry codes / processes and understand products in a technical sales capacity
  • Excellent computer skills required including Microsoft Office suite, email etiquette, & company sales tools
